Guidelines and best practice

These guidelines are designed to foster a supportive environment for everyone. We want you to participate actively and enjoy the community – engage in discussions, ask questions and support your fellow members.

Online community etiquette

  • Respect and courtesy: Treat all members with respect and courtesy. Personal attacks, harassment and discriminatory language will not be tolerated.
  • Confidentiality: Respect privacy. Do not share personal information or confidential details about your workplace or colleagues without permission.
  • Contribute constructively: Share your knowledge and experiences with helpful, relevant and accurate information to support discussions.
  • Constructive feedback: When providing feedback, be constructive and respectful. Focus on the issue, not the person.
  • Interpretations: Humour is welcome but may cause unintended offence. Your post has the potential to be seen far beyond the immediate audience.

Online community content

  • Stay on topic: Keep discussions relevant to occupational safety and health. Off-topic posts may be removed to maintain the focus of the community.
  • Stay informed: Keep up-to-date with the latest developments in occupational safety and health. Share credible sources and information with the community.
  • No spam or self-promotion: Avoid posting spam, advertisements or self-promotional content. If you have a product or service that may benefit the community, seek permission from the moderators before posting.
  • Visibility: Treat content in this online community as being publicly accessible. Before posting, ask yourself if you’d be happy for anyone to read your post.
  • Follow legal guidelines: Ensure that your posts comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including copyright laws. Do not share pirated content or engage in illegal activities.

Discussion group tips

  • State concisely and clearly the topic of your comments in the subject line. This allows members to respond appropriately to your post and makes it easier for others to find it.
  • Post your message or documents only to the most appropriate communities. This will ensure all messages receive the best response by eliminating ‘noise’.
  • Send messages such as “thanks for the information” or “me too” to individuals, not to the entire list. Do this by using the “Reply to Sender” link in every message.
  • Don’t send administrative messages, such as “remove me from the list”, to the group. Instead, change your settings or remove yourself from a community. If you are changing email addresses, simply change your settings, rather than leaving the list and rejoining under your new email address.
  • When posting, please indicate if it’s not available for re-use. We suggest that you contact the owner of any material for permission to re-use it.

Troubleshooting

  • Report issues: If you encounter any inappropriate behaviour or content, report it to the moderators within your community. They are here to help maintain a safe and respectful environment.
  • Ambassadors in your community: They’re here to help you if you have any questions or need assistance.
